Strategic AI governance and robust codes of conduct are not barriers to innovation—they can help advance competitive advantages that accelerate AI capabilities development and unlock transformative economic opportunities across all regions. Nations with strong governance frameworks consistently attract greater AI investment, foster deeper stakeholder trust, and position themselves as global leaders in the AI economy. By establishing sound and clear governance frameworks for the development and deployment of AI systems across industries, nations can create the foundation for sustained AI innovation, enhanced regional integration, and accelerated economic growth. This workshop explores how ASEAN countries can advance governance frameworks to accelerate AI development while maximizing economic competitiveness and regional integration, enabling participants to develop practical governance models for responsible AI design and deployment, identify concrete implementation steps for effective pilot programs, and establish essential capabilities across individuals, governments, SMEs, and industries to drive AI adoption throughout diverse economic sectors.
This session brings together policymakers, regulators, utilities, and private sector leaders to reach consensus on policy directions, priority technical standards, and digital modernisation enablers for cross‑border green electron trades under the APG framework. Lessons from global interconnection models (e.g., ENTSO‑E) and emerging digital technologies will inform ASEAN’s path forward. This panel discussion will serve as an introduction to the newly announced ASEAN AI Safety Network, one of the PED projects for Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship. This roundtable will provide an opportunity for the project team to share about the Network’s goals, mission and future activities. This will offer a unique opportunity for interested regional and global stakeholders to learn how they can contribute to and benefit from the ASEAN AI Safety Network's vital work in shaping a safe and beneficial AI future for the region.
The Nuclear Roundtable aims to convene key stakeholders across the nuclear ecosystem—including government agencies, industry players, academia, and international partners—to gather critical insights, share best practices, and identify knowledge and capacity gaps within Malaysia’s nuclear landscape. The primary objective is to consolidate these perspectives into a comprehensive White Paper that will inform national strategies and policy recommendations for the safe, sustainable, and strategic development of nuclear energy in Malaysia. This initiative also seeks to foster collaborative efforts and build a coherent understanding of the requirements and readiness of the local nuclear supply chain, workforce development, regulatory frameworks, and public awareness—laying a strong foundation for Malaysia’s long-term energy transition goals.
This panel discussion, held in conjunction with the launch of the Sustainable AI white paper, in collaboration with Microsoft, aims to share insights from the white paper and convene key stakeholders in Malaysia and the ASEAN region to discuss key levers required for the development and implementation of sustainable AI in the region.
